Torches at the Ready!

The magical Grotto at Hawkstone Park Follies is made up of a series of caves and passages excavated from soft sandstone. The windows would have originally been glazed in stained glass and the walls were once encrusted with shells and fossils, as well as turquoise furnace slag from nearby Coalbrookdale. Although most of the adornments were lost during the war, the Grotto has not lost its enchantment. Through tunnels and small caves to arches and large open spaces, each twist and turn has something new to offer. However, many visitors miss out on the details due to low lighting - including carved arches, tree trunks and even faces in the walls. Our advice, make sure you pack a torch! Don't worry though if you forget we have a selection in the Gift Shop on arrival.
