Park Description

The Follies is a 100 acre site set over a range of rocky sandstone outcrops incorporating steep steps, paths and narrow gullies used to access a variety of Follies including towers, bridges and caves.

The 4 mile walking route is accessed self-guided on foot. Guided walks and trails are available by foot or 4x4 at an extra cost. The guided 4x4 tours do not have wheelchair access. Guests with mobility difficulties are advised they can book a 4x4 tour, but they would need to be able to get in and out of a 4x4 vehicle themselves.

On Arrival

Guests are required to park in the main visitor car park that has hard standing throughout. There is then a short but steep walk from the car park up a tarmac road to the Visitor Centre.

The main part of the Visitor Centre including the gift shop, toilets and admission tills are all on one level, with slight raised edges over the doorway thresh holds. The classroom is accessed via a flight of outdoor steps. Doors are hung on standard hinges. Staff are always willing to help and will open doors if you require assistance. The front door to the gift shop can open up as a double door to ease access.

The Park is not wheelchair or pushchair friendly due to the contours on the land and the many steps required to navigate the steep slopes. If you do bring your wheelchair or pushchair from the car park to the visitor centre, we can store it in the gift shop whilst you visit the Park. Please note though we do not take any responsibility for it or its belongings.

When entering the Park visitors leave the Visitor Centre down a tarmac road to the Grand Valley. This road changes to hard core and the main area is a large grassy space. From here visitors head to the main trail up a woodland bark chip path that includes a number of steps and steep slopes.

Due to the nature of the landscape we are unable to provide access to many parts of the Park for the less able. Our map outlines various routes with approximate timescales, but all routes do include a number of steps, uneven ground and rough surfaces.

A number of benches and seating opportunities are scattered throughout the Park. Additional seating is provided outside the front of the gift shop.

Carers

Upon presenting a valid VLA, PIP letter or Blue Badge, guests are entitled to one free carer with their standard Adult or Child ticket.

The same applies for groups and schools, if advised at the time of booking. If carers are not booked in at the time of booking standard group adult or child ticket prices will apply.

Visually Impaired

Visually impaired guests are admitted free of charge together with a seeing guide accompanying them. Evidence of disability may be requested.

Parking

If you are visiting the gift shop and are unable to walk the hill from the car park to the visitor centre due to reduced mobility, you may bring your car up to the visitor centre to be dropped off. Two disabled parking spaces are available at the Visitor Centre for wheelchair users and guests who are unable to be dropped off. A Blue Badge must be displayed at all times.

Please note if you are arriving by coach or minibus these must be parked in the main car park. There is not room at the Visitor Centre for large vehicles to turn around.

Disabled Toilets

A basic disabled toilet is available at the visitor centre. This does not require a RADAR key. We do not currently have a hoist or adult changing bed.

Assistance Dogs

The Follies is a dog friendly site and dogs, whether assistance dogs or not, are welcome in all areas including the gift shop. Please note though dogs must be kept on lead at all times.

First Aid

All management and wardens onsite are trained in basic first aid. If you require first aid please attract attention of a member of staff or ring the visitor centre on 01948 841777 with a description of your location. Kindly note: Staff are unable to dispense any pills, lotions or sprays.

Catering & Gifts

The gift shop sells bottled drinks, icecreams and basic hot drinks. During busy times there may be a wider range of items including snacks, cakes and more. These are accessible to all, irrespective if guests purchase admission to The Follies or not. Please note, if visiting the gift shop, parking is still in the main car park at the bottom of the hill.

The gift shop contains a range of souvenir gifts as well as a unique selection of local and hand crafted gifts from Shropshire and beyond.
